What, if any, VM management are you running on your hardware?. I didn't intend on buying the M1015 but I didn't even think about only being able to pass through an entire SATA controller, and I need the onboard SATA for my datastores. 3x Noctua NF-F12 high static pressure fans (so quiet! 1 for H60 radiator, 2 for front intake)Īltogether the ESXi host cost me a little over $2000, with about $800 of that being the hard drives. 3x 6TB WD Purple HDDs (RAIDZ1 w/ 11TB usable). IBM ServeRAID M1015 (flashed to IT mode, passed through to FreeNAS VM). Samsung 830 256GB SSD (datastores/ISOs). 4x 8GB Crucial ECC DDR3-1600 Unbuffered RAM. Corsair H60 Cooler w/ Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste - ~32C idle, ~52C at load. Supermicro X10SLH-F-O MicroATX LGA1150 Server Motherboard.

How much of your network runs in software ?. How many VM's can you run given the hardware in your system? Microsoft, Xen, Citrix, KVM, Proxmox, OpenVZ, OpenStack, etc. What, if any, VM management are you running on your hardware? "This NUC runs 2 Ubuntu servers, but can't do much more" or "I am running 4 VM's on my HP Gen 7, while virtualizing PFSense without a problem" I am a newcomer to the homelab/homeserver scene I've found all the models(NUC's, HP Micros, Second hand stuff) and what can or can not be done overwhelming.
